It
has occurred a few times that after mentioning our group's name some
people
have asked: "Gold...what?" Well,
now's the time to set it straight: "Goldoolins" is simply
a combination
of our lastnames. that's all there is to it.
Some
History:
E.T. and O.D. were in a band called "Lord Flimnap" when
they were in high school.
This was around 1988-89. The band recorded an album which was
released
and distributed worldwide by a German record label named "SPM".
After
the album's release the band members had to be drafted to the army
fora
3 year period, thus putting an end to the band. When their military
service
was finally over they returned to making music and began to perform regularly
at the Tel Aviv folk club. Back then they were simply known
as"The Big Boys". They also played at other venues such as
"Mike's Place" in Jerusalem and the Kibbutz Tzora Club and
a bit later on they went to Canada where they busked the streets of
Vancouver, played on cross-country trains entertaining
the passengers and eventually landed a 3 week gig at a motel
bar
way up north in the Yukon territory (near Alaska). After returning
to Israel
eachone went his own way, O.D. continued writing his songs and also
writing
music for the youth theatre in Be'er Sheva and E.T. continued
writing
his and also graduating from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem
where
he received his BA degree in Sociology and Anthropology.
Tadlik
is a classically trained singer, a graduate of the "Rubin"
Academy of Music
in Jerusalem, who also studied at the Hague Conservatory in the
Netherlands
specializing in Early music, Renaissance and Baroque. Other
than that she also happens to be E.T.'s wife, thus making Goldoolins
somewhat
of a small family- a married couple (E.T. and Tadlik), two
childhood
friends (O.D. and E.T.) and two relatively new friends (Tadlik and
O.D.)-
sounds complicated? but then again, all families are, right?
Following
the release of E.T.'s solo album in 2015 the two original "Big
Boys"
got back together, adding Tadlik and renaming themselves "Goldoolins".
In
their first six months as a group, Goldoolins have performed all
over their
native Israel, in diverse venues such as folk clubs, pubs, student
clubs
and house concerts. They have also appeared on Israeli radio twice.
In all
these places they have enchanted their audiences with their three
voice harmonies
and original compositions, most of which are featured on their
debut
album, which was recorded during the summer of 2016 and is scheduled
for
release in October 2016 by the Israeli record label "Earsay"(
which is also
Rockfour's label).
In
October 2016 Goldoolins were invited to perform at the legendary
Cavern Club
in Liverpool, England, the club where the Beatles had started out.
This performance
marks the beginning of Goldoolins' mini U.K. tour, their first
tour
abroad.
The
Future:
Stay tuned for some more original Goldoolin music as right after
their return
home from the British tour, Goldoolins will start recording their
second
album, which just like their first, will feature them overdubbing
themselves
on all the instruments (including guitars, piano, mandolin,
harmonica,
harpsichord, double bass, percussion, zither, kalimba, accordion,
harmonium
and glockenspiel) as well as a few guest appearances by some of
their
musician friends.
