South
African singer/songwriter Beukes Willemse teamed up with fellow
countryman Chris Van Niekerk (guitar) in early 2002. Beukes had just
arrived in England, having busked his way around Australia, and saw
the beginnings of a band in his partnership with Chris. In June of
that year, Italian Paolo Serafini (drums, percussion, backing
vocals) joined the throng prior to German Jakob Nebel (guitar,
djembe) becoming the fourth link in the chain in September of the
same year. With Norwegian Christoffer Borud taking over on bass
guitar in June 2005, Livingston finally arrived on the London music
scene by winning the national UK Battle of the Bands.
Following their first visit to Liverpool in November of last
year, the guys vowed to return and their management told them that
when they did it would be to the one and only Cavern club !
Less
than five months on, Livingston have matured even more and the
release of their debut four track EP “Fly” in March 2006 brought
them a lot of media and industry attention. Three live performance
videos recorded for MTV Europe are set to hit the screens in the
coming weeks and the band have been invited over to Italy to film
another video with the country’s top production company at the end
of May.
As
those who were lucky enough to catch Livingston last time round will
tell you . . . it is as a live act that they really come into their
own. The power and energy of their performance is a truly unique
experience . . .tribal rhythms holding together intricate inversions
of sweet and soulful melodies.
