NiCER were formed as a 3 piece in August
1999 and quickly established a firm grip on the Liverpool music scene. NiCER
spent their early years in Liverpool, honing their individual talents whilst
listening to the music of the time, such as Shack, The La’s, The Jam and
later, bands such as Supergrass, The Inspiral Carpets, The Smashing Pumpkins and
others too numerous and diverse to mention. The band first met during the summer
of 1998 whilst each member was working in separate bands. A bond was quickly
formed and they regularly met to write new material until they decided to put
the theory into practice. With influences ‘cited’ as Dean Martin, Oliver
Reed & George Formby, the bands first experiments with music resulted in
abomination. Until “once upon a practice” there was born the inimitable
power-pop / funky-punk sound that has earned NiCER the notoriety they currently
hold. “NiCER live are like The Jam meets the magic roundabout, anything can
happen.” Dave Wycherley: Beat magazine ’99. With many live performances and
recording sessions under their belt and many more to come, NiCER are going from
strength to strength and eagerly await that fateful day when they meet the
mythical figure bearing pen and contract who will say to them: “Oh sorry mate,
wrong band”.
