Biography

Global Battle of the Bands Best New Band Scotland 2005

Top 3 in the world!

The Rise are a young, original 4 piece from Dundee and have been together as a band for just over 3 years, starting off as a typical indie band the guys soon found there sound in a harder rock/dance genre.

Pounding beats and screaming vocals are accompanied by driving riffs and good old fashioned rock n roll bring this band together. In their first 24 months the band had self organized and funded over 40 gigs in Dundee, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Aberdeen & Glasgow including requests to support Proud Mary, The Casuals, Blackbud, Rick Witter, Whole Lotta Led (Led Zeppelin tribute band) and The Complete Stone Roses (Stone Roses tribute band)

The time had then come for them to record there first ‘proper’ EP. Time was taken in finding the correct studio and producer, after a number of months a studio by the name of T.Pot in Perthshire and a producer named Robyn Wynn Evans were chosen. The excluded studio out in the country was the perfect retreat for the band and Robyn’s vision of what he could do with the bands music was along the same as ourselves. Robyn had produced artists such as Sam Brown, Manic Street Preachers and, most successfully, Dodgy’s Free Peace Sweet. Over two hectic days the band came out with a solid 4 song EP of newly written material.

Gigging on the back of the EP came thick and fast and more gigs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness followed. The EP, only available on sale at gigs, sold over 500 copies in just 3 months. A live acoustic session with Marion Scott @ Moray Firth Radio, Inverness followed and invites to meet local record companies came flooding in.

The band would like to stress that we are totally self-sufficient, from writing songs to organising gigs, from designing t-shirts to advertising, from contacting press to writing the article you have just read. Having come a long way in 2 years we know that's because of one thing and that's our commitment to our music and the belief we have in ourselves. Lately a homecoming gig in Dundee’s Reading Rooms saw over 200 people come to see the city’s best band, an invite to play Inverness Belladrum Fringe festival and the bands first appearance at legendary King Tuts in Glasgow have kept the boys busy.

Venturing to Glasgow’s Soundhaus to compete for best new band in Scotland the band came up against stiff competition with 15 other bands competing also. After listening to all bands the judges decision came out as The Rise were to take that accolade back to Dundee with them and of course on to London’s Astoria on December 7th 2005. In the final the band came 3rd out of 24 nations and as a result there prize is a gig in Mexico City in April 2006.

Up to date news includes our third visit to King Tuts in the space of 3 months in Jan 06 and an invite by Mean Fiddler to play The Garage in London in February 06. Currently after writing new tunes the band are in discussions to record and release their second EP
